Questions, answered.

Which lab panel should I choose?
Choose the Essential panel if you want to know what’s behind your symptoms and whether treatment fits. Its 71 biomarkers cover what the treatment decision and the safety checks depend on: estradiol, FSH, total testosterone by LC-MS/MS, free testosterone by LC-MS/MS with equilibrium dialysis, a thyroid panel, an iron panel, a lipid panel, a comprehensive metabolic panel (blood sugar, liver and kidney function, and electrolytes), hs-CRP and a complete blood count.

Choose the Complete panel if you also want the causes beyond hormones. Its 100 biomarkers include all 71 from the Essential panel and add 29 more: LH, DHEA-S, prolactin, thyroid antibodies, insulin and HbA1c, ApoB, lipoprotein(a) and homocysteine, vitamin D, B12, folate, MMA, magnesium, zinc and copper, an omega-3 and omega-6 panel, GGT and an autoimmune screen (ANA).

Do I need the Complete panel to start treatment?
No. The Essential panel has every marker our medical team needs to decide on treatment and to check safety. The Complete panel adds depth on other causes and on long-term health. It does not change whether you qualify, and it can change what else your provider finds and treats.
What does the panel price include?
The blood draw at a Quest Diagnostics location, the lab work, a clinical review with the decision and next steps in your messages, and your consultation. If the clinical review confirms treatment is appropriate, you select a membership and book a video visit with a licensed provider at no charge. The membership starts only if the provider prescribes treatment. Both panels are FSA/HSA eligible.
When in my cycle should I get my blood drawn?
If you still have periods, go on day 2, 3 or 4 of your cycle, in the morning, no later than 10 AM. Day 1 is the first day of full bleeding, not spotting. Estradiol and FSH change through the month, so our medical team reads them against the same early days of the cycle. If your periods have stopped, any morning works.
How do I prepare for the blood draw?
Fast for 12 hours before the draw. Water is fine; coffee, tea and food are not. Sleep at least 7 hours the night before and drink plenty of water the day before and that morning. Skip alcohol and hard training for 24 hours before.

If you take biotin, often found in hair, skin and nails supplements and in many multivitamins, stop 3 days before: it can distort several hormone tests. If you’ve had a fever or the flu in the last 2 weeks, reschedule, since illness can shift hormone levels for a while. Keep taking your prescribed medications as usual unless our medical team told you otherwise.
Where and how is the blood drawn?
At a Quest Diagnostics location near you. After checkout you receive a requisition from us; bring it and a photo ID. You may also get an email from Fullscript, the lab-ordering platform behind the requisition; it needs no action. You can walk in or book a time in advance. When Quest asks about insurance, select that the person being tested doesn’t have insurance: the panel is already paid for.
How long do results take, and what happens next?
Essential panel results usually arrive 5 to 7 days after the draw. The Complete panel takes 10 to 14 days, because several of its tests run at specialty labs. While your labs run, you fill out your health history. Our medical team reviews both and explains the decision and next steps in your messages. If the clinical review confirms treatment is appropriate, you book a video visit with a licensed provider to discuss your results and next steps.
Do I need blood work before hormone therapy? My gynecologist prescribes without it.
You can be prescribed hormone therapy without blood work, and many gynecologists do. After 45, menopause is diagnosed from age, symptoms and periods, because a single hormone level swings from week to week (NICE guideline NG23). Veedma tests anyway, for four reasons that are separate from that diagnosis.

1. Look-alikes. An underactive thyroid, low iron and rising blood sugar cause the same tiredness, low mood, lost words, weight gain and thinning hair, and hormones will not fix them: 1 in 8 women develops a thyroid disorder (American Thyroid Association), 1 in 3 women has iron deficiency (JAMA Network Open, 2024) and 1 in 3 women has prediabetes (CDC). Every Veedma panel includes a full thyroid panel, an iron panel with ferritin, and blood sugar.
2. How your body will handle treatment. How well hormone therapy works depends on the organs that process it. The liver breaks down sex hormones, so liver function is checked before anything is prescribed, along with kidneys, cholesterol and a complete blood count, and your provider plans treatment around the results.
3. Your hormones, read together. Estradiol on its own says little in these years: it can read 10 pg/mL one month and 300 the next. FSH is the pituitary's signal to the ovaries, and it climbs as the ovaries slow down, starting about 6 years before the final period (Randolph et al., JCEM, 2011). A higher FSH next to your estradiol points to perimenopause, which a single estradiol number cannot show. One FSH reading can vary too, so our medical team reads the pair with your cycle day and your symptoms.
4. A baseline for your dose. Later results are compared with your first numbers, and testosterone is measured before it is ever prescribed, as the 2019 global consensus recommends (Davis et al., JCEM, 2019).

The blood draw is one visit to a Quest Diagnostics location. The Essential panel is $79 and includes your consultation.
Why does Veedma measure testosterone by LC-MS/MS?
On every Veedma panel, total testosterone is measured by LC-MS/MS and free testosterone by LC-MS/MS with equilibrium dialysis, the reference methods clinical research uses. The draw is in person at a CLIA-certified Quest Diagnostics location. A woman's testosterone sits low on the scale, and that is where the common clinical immunoassay fails. When five widely used automated immunoassays were checked against mass spectrometry, the average error in women's samples was 23%, and 2 of the 5 could not reliably measure anything below 35 to 100 ng/dL, where most women sit (La'ulu et al., Clinical Biochemistry, 2018). Another common clinical immunoassay barely tracked the true value below 100 ng/dL (Shi et al., Journal of Chromatography B, 2021). The 2019 global consensus on testosterone therapy for women, endorsed by the Endocrine Society and the International Menopause Society, grades direct assays as "highly unreliable in the female range" and names mass spectrometry as the accurate method (Davis et al., JCEM, 2019). Our dose decisions come from published research, so your result has to be measured the way the research measured it. The same reason rules out finger-prick home kits: capillary tubes read testosterone 14% lower than a venous draw (Vasavan et al., Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine, 2025).
Can I use labs I already have, including Function Health?
Yes. If you have results from Function Health, Superpower, InsideTracker, Hone, Everlywell, Quest Diagnostics, Labcorp or any other CLIA-certified lab drawn in the past 180 days, upload them for a free clinical review. Our medical team explains the decision and next steps in your messages within 24 hours on business days. No credit card, no obligation. From there the path is the same as for women who order our panel: if the clinical review confirms treatment is appropriate, you select a membership, book the video visit at no charge and pay only if the provider prescribes treatment.

To reach a treatment decision, the upload has to include estradiol, FSH, TSH, ferritin, a complete blood count and liver and kidney function, drawn on a known cycle day if you are still cycling; for testosterone the method has to be LC-MS/MS, since immunoassay results in the female range are not reliable enough to dose on. If something is missing, your care team explains exactly which markers to add in your messages.
Who reviews my results?
Veedma’s medical team of licensed providers. Your provider reviews every result alongside your symptoms and history, then explains the decision and next steps in your messages. The provider you meet by video discusses your results and next steps with you.
How often are labs repeated on treatment?
Members get the Essential panel, 71 biomarkers, at month 3 and every 6 months after, each with a clinical review, as part of the membership. You can add the Complete panel at any time.
How much do the panels cost, and are they refundable?
The Essential panel is $79 and the Complete panel is $359, each paid once, with the blood draw, a clinical review and your consultation included. Both are FSA/HSA eligible. Lab panels are a separate payment from the membership and are non-refundable once the blood draw is collected, because they cover lab work and clinical analysis already performed.
Is my health data private?
Yes. Your health information is protected under HIPAA and the California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act (CMIA). It is treated as protected health information from the moment you share it, including labs you upload before any treatment relationship, handled only as those laws permit, and we do not sell your personal information. See our Privacy policy for the full detail.
Do you accept insurance? Can I use FSA/HSA?
Veedma is a direct-pay clinic and does not bill insurance. Compounded bioidentical hormones are generally not covered by insurance, and a flat membership is often less than the copays for separate visits, labs and medication combined. Both the membership and the lab panels are FSA/HSA eligible: they qualify as medical expenses, so you can pay with pre-tax dollars from a Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account.
